Selma Blair Cracks on Motherhood: “It’s Horrifying!”

Selma Blair is quickly learning the joys and the terrors of having a newborn baby boy.

“The best part of being a mom is his slow smile he gives me every morning when I say, ‘Good morning,’” Blair, 39, said at last night’s amfAR Inspiration Gala at Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood.

However…

“I’d say about 45 minutes a night is what I sleep,” she told us. “It’s a special situation and I cry. Mama cries.”

“This child is a saint,” Blair said of 3-month-old Arthur. “[But] it’s horrifying. You’re too tired to enjoy how precious this time is…It is very challenging.”

Blair says she probably won’t dress up little Arthur for Halloween.

“What do you do with a dressed-up baby?” she laughed. “Give him a bath and put him to bed? It’s all kind of silly.”

Not that she didn’t think about a costume.

She smiled, “I was trying to have him go as a turtle, but they didn’t have infant turtle costumes.”

Selma Blair: My Son Arthur “Looks Like a Turtle”

Now that he’s nearly 3-months-old, Selma Blair’s son Arthur is starting to come out of his shell.

“He looks like a little turtle,” she told Us Weekly at Wednesday’s Beckley by Melissa launch party in L.A. “He’s an amazing baby. We’re so in love, as I imagine most parents are.”

The Cruel Intentions actress, who’s currently dating fashion designer Jason Bleick, admitted that they’ve had to make a few adjustments since becoming parents.

“I may hire someone,” Blair explained. “There’s no going it alone anymore at night. But Arthur’s amazing. He’s a joy and he’s so settled. He’s a happy baby.”

Blair added that she and Bleick also have to “schedule date nights.”

“My friend watched the baby Friday and tonight’s a date night,” she told Us on the red carpet. “So it’s a big deal. They’re few and far between, but we appreciate them.”

Selma Blair on Baby Arthur: “He’s Perfect”

OK! caught up with Selma Blair backstage at the J. Mendel show for NYC Fashion Week on Wednesday where the Dark Horse actress opened up about her and boyfriend Jason Bleick‘s seven-week old son, Arthur Saint.

“He’s perfect,” Selma told OK!. “Arthur is perfection. He’s as good as a newborn can be.”

Selma, who gave birth on July 25, is definitely finding ways to balance her new role as mother with her career.

“He came to Venice for the Film Festival and to Toronto, and right here and he’s been a captain all the way. He’s been amazing.”

And the jet-setting lifestyle doesn’t seem to bother Arthur one bit! When asked if he had any great milestones yet, Selma replied:

“He’s been smiling since two weeks. He already weighs 13 pounds. He’s very tall, [at] seven weeks. And he’s… the smiling is the biggest one.”

It seems as though Selma, Arthur and Jason are one big happy — and smiling— family!

Selma Blair Talks Baby Weight: “It’s a Mess of Jell-O All Over”

Although Selma Blair says she honestly hasn’t lost an ounce of baby weight since giving birth to her baby son Arthur six weeks ago, the actress looked runway-ready at J.Mendel’s Fashion Week show today in New York.

The fashionable Hellboy star chatted with E! News about her new life as a mother—and how she plans to get back in tip-top shape…

“It’s life-changing,” the first-time parent told E! News. “I totally had respect for mothers that I didn’t know I had. And I’m exhausted and in shock and thrilled at the same time.”

Despite pressure for Hollywood moms to get back to their pre-pregnancy bods, Blair—who looked slim and lovely in a beautiful black J. Mendel dress, says she’s taking her time when it comes to losing her baby weight.

“I am not fabulous,” she told us, laughing. “It is a mess of Jell-O all over my body. I’m relying on beautiful clothes to mask what is happening to my body. And no, I have not lost any baby weight yet. Any. I’m only six weeks after birth, [but] now I’m at the point where I can exercise, so I will. I will start Pilates again and Bodyline, and I have a trainer. I’ve been following Alicia Silverstone’s diet stuff too.”

Blair is also looking to book her next acting gig. “I’m going to try to get my mind back together and hopefully get a great job,” she said.

After city hopping in Venice and Toronto, Blair said she came out to the J.Mendel’s runway show because the designer’s style is so original.

“I’ve always loved J.Mendel,” she said. “I’ve always loved clothes that don’t necessarily follow trends, clothes that definitely surpassed with their quality. I’ve worn his coats and his clothing in my personal life. They’re just timeless, elegant, chic clothes.”

Joining the hot mama in the show’s front row were Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who required extra security to protect them from the throngs of photographers angling to snap their picture. The duo sat side by side, laughing and whispering throughout the show, while model Andela Lindvall, a longtime fan of the line, sat a few seats away, looking absolutely stunning in a big, bright hat.

Selma Blair Backstage at H&M FAA campaign Video

Artists from the worlds of film and music are supporting H&M’s Fashion Against AIDS (FAA) this Spring. We have captured Selma Blair backstage shooting for the campaign!

Selma Blair’s no star, and she’s happy with that

Anyone who’s got “Girl at rock concert” (in Kids in the Hall’s Brain Candy) listed as one of their first film credits was probably destined for a strange ride through show business — and, so far, that’s just fine with Selma Blair.

From being a face in the Brain Candy crowd, Blair carried on to land a standout role in Cruel Intentions, the youthful, contemporary remake of Dangerous Liaisons starring Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar. A romantic lead in the Hellboy franchise followed, as well as the supporting role in Legally Blonde and the TV show Kath & Kim, but Blair removed herself from the casting Rolodex shortly thereafter.

“I took a step back the last few years and haven’t worked. I took care of some kids and horses. I actually bought a horse … and it saved my life,” says Blair.

“I started riding seriously at 17 … show jumping. Now I do dressage, also, but I finally decided last year I’m not going to devote everything in my life to the next movie or the next TV show. I’m going to move on.”

Now back in the saddle professionally, as well as personally, Blair is in the midst of shooting a Vancouver indie thriller called Replicas. The debut feature from music video/ magazine publishers Justin Tyler Close and Jeremy Power Regimbal, Replicas features Blair in the lead role as a mother trying to enjoy some quality time with her family — when things go horribly wrong.

“A friend gave me the script and it was something I hadn’t done before. (So) I said yes and attached myself. It’s a really quick shoot, and when you do an indie with a new director and a new producer, you feel their excitement,” says Blair of the film currently shooting in Langley, B.C.

“I’m definitely the veteran on set. I’m certainly the oldest. It’s a young crew, and they’re so happy to see their dream coming together.”

As someone who describes herself as “a tough smile” who “never had a lot of twinkle and shine,” Blair says she’s lost some edges with age, and says the nice thing about getting older is that she can finally detach from any ingenue expectations.

“I’ve never been the most ambitious actress. I don’t look like Julia Roberts; that’s not what I bring physically to a role. Now I can play mother roles and it works. I feel something good is happening,” she says.

“If I could dream of the kind of career I’d like to have, it would look like Catherine Keener’s or Dianne Wiest’s — OK, I really am fantasizing here. But I think those actors are a huge pleasure to watch.”

Blair shouldn’t sell herself short. She, too, has a proven track record for being interesting, whether it’s as the villain-turned-ally in Legally Blonde or an ill-fated turn in The Fog.

“So it’s not Titanic,” she says. “I get confidence from doing it consistently, even if it’s under the radar. I can say to myself: ‘OK, I’m sticking around. I’m going to keep doing this,’ ” she says.

With personal and professional esteem surging, Blair says the other half of the confidence equation is crushing the bogeymen.

“It’s not an overwhelming thing. It’s just that somewhere, there’s this little bit of knowledge that someone is willing to take you down a notch. And you know, to not be paranoid of it, but just to realize it, and that’s the way a lot of people work,” she says.

“You can’t do anything about it except be mindful, and then move on with your life.”

And Blair is certainly moving. In addition to Replicas, she’s working with Todd Solondz on Dark Horse alongside Christopher Walken and Mia Farrow.

She’s also slated to appear in Four Saints, a First World War drama about brave nurses, and A Different Kind of Love with Richard Dreyfuss.

“I love Todd Solondz. I love a director with great vision who really knows what he wants.

“It makes the job easier, because you can understand the vision that much better and communicate it better. I want to do that for every director.”

Replicas wraps this month, with a release date to be determined.
